Ha Giang is mainly made up of mountains and wilderness: craggy summits and diversified rock formations are important parts of its provincial identity. Thousands of pinnacles and sharp, pointed rocks overlay each other to create a gigantic rock desert. Sea lion rock field is in Van Chai commune, on the way from Yen Minh town to Pho Cao. Every rock here is long and silky and is shaped like a sea lion’s back. Here the round flagstones are arranged like thousands of black sea lions leaning against one another, lazily lying under the sun. According to geologists, this group of “sea lions” are a cluster of thick-layered and light grey lime stone, which is purer than the thinner lime found in neighboring areas.

Ma Pi Leng Pass is around 20km long zigzaging up & down along high mountain slopes – the most difficult part of the Happiness Road to be built connecting Dong Van & Meo Vac district – two remote mountainous frontier districts of the country !In the passt, to construct this road part, thousands of workers & volunteers had to cling themselves on the cliffs to open every centemeter of the path. It was such a challenging terrain that many volunteers & workers lost their lives and took them 11 months to complete this part of the road.That’s why the pass of Ma Pi Leng is likened as the Great Wall of Vietnam.The Happiness Road & its amazing pass of Ma Pi Leng is an lively evidence of strong cooperation & great efforts among young volunteers & local ethnics in the country toward the nature’s obstacles.Thanks to their sacrifice & great contribution, the road was opened to make the gap shorter between the highlands & the lowlands of Ha Giang province, to bring happiness & more chances to develop for thousands of people in the region, and importantly to defense the nation’s territory.
Admire The Buckwheat Flower Season
From October until the end of December, it’s the season of the buckwheat flower. However, in the first days of October, travelers and photographers flock to Ha Giang to take pictures, admire its beauty and visit many landscapes or explore the unique culture of the ethnic minority. It seems to be difficult to say in words the beauty of Ha Giang in the flower season. At that time, when the terraced fields are harvested, the rock area of Ha Giang is covered by the pink color of buckwheat flower. That creates the romantic view from nature.
Buckwheat flower is a food crop of the poor, people here used to plant to reserve for the remaining pre-harvest days, Buckwheat powder is fermented for wine, stalks are used as feed for livestock.The most widely grown flower is on the hills of Dong Van District, Xi Man, Hoang Su Phi, Lung Cam village, Sa Phin.
