“No artificial colourings or preservatives” are words you will hear from the seller and see from the banner when you stop by a recipe shop in Tay Ninh province, the location famous for the production of traditional seasoned salt.

Tay Ninh is a small province of Vietnam, located in Eastern of South, Tay Ninh share border with Cambodia on the north with 240 km boundary, Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc provinces on the East, Ho Chi Minh City and Long An Province on the south. While salt worker often have difficult problem in finding output for salt consumption, or to sell salt at low prices. However Tay Ninh, where neither made a grain of salt, yet they have turned into a specialty grain of salt sold throughout the South, the North and to the European, American ... 

When the Salt Is Not Just Salty 1

Shrimp salt is firts made in the 20th century. After the war, salted shrimp, salt pepper, salt pepper, salt production ..., continue to exist in many families in Tay Ninh,It is used to eat with fruit, sticky rice, boiled meat... Untill country start to open and modernize, shrimp salt had just begin to produce by many households in Tay Ninh to sell to the market. Tay Ninh salt shrimp start to become familiar to consumers in Ho Chi Minh city, and it is also known as the whole country.

Tay Ninh shrimp salt need three main material was salt, dried shrimp and chili peppers,but only one chili peppers is available in Tay Ninh. Salt and dried shrimps still must buy from other provinces. In addition, It needs some spices like garlic, monosodium glutamat, lemongrass. Then salt must be dry, clean dried shrimp and chili, peel garlic. All mixed into the salt and pour countless blender, grind very fine. Subsequently, the entire mixture was being taken away sun, drying time takes 2 or 3 days. Drying is done, all was for wealth was a big pan, put on the fire, for drying.

This is the hardest stages because salt drying must be always stired fast, without it, salt would be scorched. When stiring, we have to add MSG to flow more freely into each grain of salt. After drying, we have a complete salt shrimp product with unforgetable delicious taste. This Salt is good to have with fresh fruit, rice and boiled vegetable. Every young people in Vietnam love it and whenever they enjoy fresh fruit they have to dipping it with Tay Ninh Shrimp chili salt.
