October and Buckwheat flower are the two most searched keywords compared to other searches for Ha Giang tourism. Of course, it is a very distinct beauty of the Ha Giang rocky plateau.Tourists often flock to Ha Giang from October to December in order to see the fields of buckwheat flowers that has become the province's signature. The buckwheat fields are waiting for your arrival so, are you ready to go to this rocky highland yet?

Ha Giang is known as the most beautiful place in Northern Vietnam. This province containing forested limestone and granite mountains, caves and gorgeous rivers, and tiny settlements, borders China. There are so many things to see in this stunningly scenic province – not only is it mountainous literally everywhere but some noted places are Ma Pi Leng Pass, Dong Van Plateau, and Hoang Su Phi or Quan Ba Pass. But right now I am gonna focus on something special about Ha Giang – buckwheat flowers (Tam Giac Mach in Vietnamese).

The buckwheat blossoms, or “chez” as known by the H’mong (a local hill tribe of the North), are the specialty of the northernmost land, because every year, just when the first monsoon starts blowing, these tiny white flowers simultaneously flourish, flooding the whole rocky plateau. Carrying a legend that not everyone knows, buckwheat flowers adorn what we in Vietnam call “cat ear-shaped” stones with warm incarnadine, inviting the nomads to discover such captivating beauty.

The locals plant the flowers everywhere, from the slopes of the mountains to the deep valley, under the winding mountain passes. Leave behind the busy city life, tourists like to immerse themselves amid the flower fields and walk the Dong Van Plateau.

To the locals, the buckwheat flowers are their food that can be made into cake or wine. Young flower branches can be used as vegetables. In order to attract more tourists, the locals also plant the trees in several famous places such as Sung La Valley or Pho Bang Village.

The third Buckwheat Flower Festival is being held from November 24 to December 31 in Dong Van, Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Meo Vac districts and Ha Giang City. The theme of this year festival is Love Song from the Rocks.

The festival aims to honour the unique cultural values of Dong Van Karst Plateau, promote tourism and further develop the buckwheat flowers into the provincial tourism brand.

Various activities will be held including international geological park fair, a fair on local agricultural products, a music concert, paragliding over karst mountain ranges, traditional arts performances and folk games of ethnic minority groups.

Trust me, it could be your biggest regret to miss a chance to watch one of the most romantic spectacles of the year. Come to Ha Giang tour, embrace the beautiful white and pink gowns of buckwheat flowers and let your soul free.
