Not To Be Missed When Visiting Ha Giang

Coming to Ha Giang, tourists are attracted by the imposing Dong Van Rock Plateau, Me-Pi-Leng pass, Love Market of Khau Vai and colorful culture of the local hill tribes... Tourists can buy embroidery such as handkerchief, haversack, and dress with colorful, fine pattern. They also take part in enjoyable market-day of local ethnics. The people and natural scenes here are unlike anywhere in Vietnam. It's not wrong to say there is another Vietnam in Ha Giang.

1. Ma Pi Leng pass

Ma Pi Leng Pass belongs to Ha Giang province; it is dangerous road with 20 kilometers length. Over the Ma Pi Leng, there has a mountain with 2.000 meters height located on the 'Happiness' road connecting Ha Giang, Dong Van and Meo Vac town. Ma Pi Leng began building from the 60s of the 20th century by workers who almost are the H'mong. 

The path length is approximately 200 kilometers. Ma Pi Leng Pass is located in the Dong Van Geoparks which is recognized as the global geoparks. The road along the mountainside has romantic, spectacular scenery that is ideal destination for tourists.

Ma Pi Leng Pass is not long but it is the most dangerous pass in the northern border mountain area. It is considered as the “King” of the Vietnam’s pass or Great Wall of Vietnam or the Pyramid of the Meo. At the top of Ma Pi Leng mount is the “happiness” road, there has a stone stele recording the marks in the construction process.

2. Quan Ba heaven gate 

Quan Ba heaven gate is located about 50 km north of Ha Giang town, this is the gateway to the Dong Van geological park. Heaven Gate is on top of the pass from Ha Giang to Quan Ba district, once upon a time behind the gate was kingdom of Hmong people with 4 districts Quan Ba, Dong Van, Meo Vac and Yen Minh. In 1939 the French built huge a wooden door, 150cm thick at this place, now the door is no longer there, only a sign in both English and Vietnamese languages: Quan Ba Heaven Gate.

3. Nho Que river

The Nho Quế River is a river of Vietnam and China. It flows through Hà Giang Province, Cao Bằng Province and China for 192 kilometres. The river has a basin area of 6052 square kilometres. The Nho Que River flows peacefully as it has done for thousands of years and waited you to visit.

4. Lung Cu flag pole

Going to Ha Giang, do not skip visiting Lung Cu, the northernmost point of Vietnam. Standing on Lung Cu Flagpole, you will see the flag that flutters in the breeze. If you are a Vietnamese, then it may be the most sacred moments in the lifetime. Also, witnessing the first point of Vietnam is the moment for love of the country and national pride.

5. Taste specialty dishes of Ha Giang

The corn wine in Ha Giang is rather heavy but very fragrant. When it comes to specialty of Ha Giang, you could enjoy a bowl of porridge of “thang co” (thắng cố) or “au tau” (âu tấu) and then drinking warm corn wine, particularly in a day in late autumn, right in the rocky plateau.
