Hanoi has secured its place in the world's top 10 destinations voted by TripAdvisor users.
But the capital city dropped four spots this year to stand at 8th place in the 2016 Travelers' Choice Destination awards, which were announced Monday.
TripAdvisor, the booking and user review site, ranked cities that had more than one million reviews over a 12-month period.
According to TripAdvisor, the Vietnamese charming capital has aged well, preserving the Old Quarter, monuments and colonial architecture, while making room for modern developments alongside.
“Hanoi may have shrugged off several former names, including Thang Long, or "ascending dragon," but it hasn't forgotten its past, as sites such as Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and Hoa Lo Prison attest,” it wrote.
“Lakes, parks, shady boulevards and more than 600 temples and pagodas add to the appeal of this city, which is easily explored by taxi.”
Beside Hanoi, Cambodia’s Siem Reap and Indonesia’s Ubud are two Southeast Asian cities in the top 10 destinations. London topped the list this year.
