The list is based on the votes of thousands of travelers from around the world. Of nearly 4,700 respondents, 45 per cent said that An Bang was a “great” place while 36 per cent said it was “very good”.

The beach is great for swimming and good food, TripAdvisor said, recommending May to September as the best time to visit.

About 3 km from the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site of Hoi An and 22 km south of Da Nang, An Bang is one of the few stretches of smooth sandy beach under palm trees in Hoi An that’s relatively unspoiled by development. The road along the beach is home to fishing villages and provides a romantic setting for couples. Activities include swimming, paddle-boarding and surfing.

An Bang became more popular after travel site CNNGo named it in a 2011 list of the 50 most beautiful beaches worldwide. It is now among the top things to do in Hoi An on TripAdvisor.

Located in the central province of Quang Nam, Hoi An was a leading trading port in Southeast Asia in the 17th and 18th centuries. Its architecture is a combination of Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese, with a little Western as well. It became a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1999.
