Ninh Binh - beautiful land delights visitors by natural landscapes and famous cultural heritage. Ninh Binh is not only famous for its amazing landscapes such as Trang An, Tam Coc – Bich Dong etc, but also well-known for a lot of historical relics and spiritual destinations. 1. Trang An Eco-tourist Site

Trang An Eco-tourist Site has a boat landing center on Trang An Avenue, 7 km from Ninh Binh City. Trang An includes a system of caves, waterfalls, limestone forest and historical sites associated with the ancient capital of Hoa Lu. 

With a spectacular landscape of limestone karst peaks permeated with valleys, some of which are submerged, and surrounded by steep, almost vertical cliffs, Trang An Eco-tourist Site is considered as an outdoor geological museum because it is entirely surrounded by bow shaped limestone mountain ranges lying on a delta wetland area.

2. Tam Coc- Bich Dong Landscape

Tam Coc – Bich Dong is a breathtaking complex of Tam Coc grotto and Bich Dong pagoda which located in Ngu Nhac Son Mountains, Hoa Lu District,Ninh Binh Province in the north of Vietnam. Taking a three-hour boat excursion along the Ngo Dong River, you will arrive Tam Coc (“three caves”) portion, beginning at the village of Van Lam and proceeding through a scenic landscape dominated by rice fields and karst towers.

You will have chance to enjoy the stunning beauty of three caves: Hang Ca, Hang Hai and Hang Ba, You will boat through 3 amazing caves portion: Hang Ca, Hang hai and Hang Ba, the largest one is 125 meters long with is ceiling about 2 m high above the water. One or two local women rowing boat will also sell embroidered merchandise.

Turning in the opposite position, we will arrive Bich Dong pagoda, which is located in Ngu Nhac mountain. There are 3 levels: Ha pagoda (lower pagoda), Trung pagoda (middle pagoda) and Thuong Pagoda (upper pagoda). Visiting Bich Dong, tourists have opportunity to turn back to Post Le Dynasty’s legends. Reaching the upper pagoda, you certainly will get the most magnificent view of Bich Dong in term of architecture and history.

3. Hoa Lu Ancient Citadel

Not only serving as a cradle of civilization of ancient Vietnamese, Trang An also used to house the old capital of the Vietnamese feudal and independent state, Hoa Lu Ancient Citadel, more than 1,000 years ago.  Hoa Lu Ancient Citadel is a national relic related to the three dynasties in feudal history of Viet Nam (Dinh, Le and Ly dynasties in the 10th and 11th centuries). This area consists of defense earthen walls, palaces, temples and shrines which make magnificent fairy scenery. According to old historical books, in 968, after defeating twelve armies of rebels and unifying the country, Dinh Bo Linh came to the throne as King Dinh Tien Hoang. He set up the capital in Hoa Lu and named the country Dai Co Viet. From 968 to 1009, six kings of the Dinh, Le and Ly Dynasties set up the capital there. In 1010, King Ly Thai To moved the capital from Hoa Lu (Ninh Binh) to Thang Long (Ha Noi). Since then Hoa Lu has remained the ancient capital.

4. Bai Dinh pagoda

Bai Dinh - the largest pagoda in Viet Nam and Southeast Asia is located in Trang An eco-tourism site belonging to Gia Sinh commune, Gia Vien District. The pagoda is promising to be a Buddhist center of the region.

This pagoda has been granted with 12 national records by Vietnam Record Books, they are: largest bronze bell (36 tons); highest and heaviest gilded bronze statue of Buddha Sakyamuni (10m high, 100 tons); largest set of three gilded bronze statues of Buddha: The Past, the Present, the Future (9,57m high, 100 tons); largest pagoda well; largest bronze statue of Quan Yin Buddha… In addition, there are many other works which are also very mighty,  meticulous and impressive such as Tam Quan (the Entrance) that is made of wood, 13m wide and 16.5m high; Bell-tower was built in octagonal architecture similar to a lotus flower (18 m high, 17m in diameter), containing a 36 tons bronze bell and a 72 tons bronze drum. In particular, Bai Dinh is one of several places in Vietnam where hosts 6 sarira pearls, precious treasures of Buddha.

5. Mua cave

Hang Mua has its meaning as “dancing cave” because this site was previously considered as the place where Tran king used to come to enjoy dancing & singing shows performed in this cave. 

Hang Mua is constructed following the model of “miniature Great Wall” in China with nearly 500 steps up to mountains to conquer. It is a hard trek up with many of its uneven limestone steps (expecially at the top point) but worth your conquering efforts for impressive panoramic view of Tam Coc, Trang An & Ninh Binh city when you reach the top point of Mua mountains. Take your leisurely trek up with care due to steep steps on the way. For wonderful panoramic photos of golden rice fields & limestone monntains, you’d better arrange your trip to Ninh Binh & Mua cave between April and May when the rice is getting ripe from green to yellow colours.
