Tra Su forest - A mystery secret in An Giang

As many other regions, Bay Nui, An Giang in every summer are extremely hot with high temperature, low water level in canals. Car takes visitors to Tra Su tourism destination. Step out of car, the sun heat is like heat from boiled oil pan blowing onto face as being burned. But after crossing iron bridge only a few minutes, the feeling is completely changed. Mangrove covers immensely everywhere with green color. The water turns to yellow as amber’s color. Tra Su forest (Tinh Bien district, An Giang) in summer is still cool even though temperatures outside is sometime up to 35 degrees Celsius.

To go to Tra Su cajuput forest, you will have to drive nearly 200 km from Ho Chi Minh to Tinh Bien, An Giang provnce. The forest is the most vivid in the afternoon with thousands of birds flying overhead.

The road to the Tra Su cajuput forest has been paved to the forest gate. This site is usually quiet in the morning or during weekdays. This is a Mekong delta adventure tours destination preferred by the scenery and the opportunity to explore exciting life of all species of birds in the forest.

The boat on lotus lagoon takes visitors to river port where dinghies are available to be continue new journey. They slowly move on the green "path" full of water-fern. The forest has been restored since 1983 with a current extension area of 700 hectares. This ecological spot is the habitat of many genera of water birds (mostly storks), colonies of bats and various rare animal and bird species. Especially tourists will be flabbergasted by small houses on stilts with rudimentary bamboo ceilings that are firmly tightened to cajuput trees, making an unusual existence in the quiet ambience of the forest. They are actually restoration work of a provincial-level revolutionary base of the An Giang people and soldiers in the glorious struggle against the US imperialists. Standing on a 10m high watch tower in the midst of the forest, tourists can enjoy a panorama of the vast greenery spotted with the white of storks below. Turtles, snakes, as well as other reptiles and freshwater fishes are also abundant in the canals.
