Asia silk culture festival is scheduled to run in Hoi An silk village in the central province of Quang Nam between June 11 and 14.
The event is expected to attract the participation of representatives from the International Silk Association, the Mekong Institute, businesses and artisans from 50 craft villages. The event aims at promoting and preserving the value of traditional silk villages across Vietnam, including Van Phuc (Hanoi), Hoi An and Ma Chau (Quang Nam), and Bao Loc (the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong), among others.
It will also connect craftsmen with potential business partners from Japan, India, China, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Europe. In 2015, Hoi An silk village represented Vietnam and joined the Asia Silk Alliance as one of seven founding members with the mission of linking Vietnamese silk enterprises with the wider Asian silk community.
The silk village, located at 28 Nguyen Tat Thanh street in Hoi An, is a silk-weaving centre and living museum of the ancient trade in the central region. The village was voted as the third best attraction in Hoi An by travel website TripAdvisor in 2015.
Last year on March 28 - 29 , The Viet Nam - Asia Silk Culture Festival 2016 be held at Hoi An Silk Village with the participation of traditional silk villages in Viet Nam, fashion designers, and businesses from China, Japan, India, Myanmar and Thailand.
The festival featured a series of programmes including the Asia Silk Alliance seminar, Business Matching of Asia Silk Enterprises and 100 tailor's brands of Hoi An, Hand-made Souvenir Expo, Viet Nam - Asia silk fashion show and Hoi An Cuisine Fair.
