Ha Noi’s book street attracts visitors

The first Book Street of Hanoi attracted untold number of visitors right after being launched. Hanoi launches its first Book Street on May 1 at 19/12 Street of Hoan Kiem district, aiming to promote reading culture and develop a learning society for the country’s sustainable development.

Visitors to the book street include children, teenagers, young people and the elderly as well as foreigners, mainly gathering there in the evenings and on weekends.

The book street features the participation of different publishing units serving diverse demands of readers; including Kim Dong Publishing House selling books for children, Tien Phong Publishing House for teenagers, Women Publishing House for women, National Political Publishing House - Truth for those interested in politics, and Ha Noi Publishing House for readers wishing to find information about the capital city.

Currently, there are 16 bookstores, one coffee shop and one flower kiosk along the street which were designed harmoniously, creating a beautiful space imbued with traditional cultural identity. The relevant agencies are completing the rules and regulations related to the management of the book street to ensure consistency at the reading space, according to Vice Chairman of Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee.

In addition, a wide variety of activities honouring reading culture will continue to be held in order to improve attractions at the book street. A website on Ha Noi’s book street is expected to be launched as soon as possible to widely introduce information about the displayed books and activities held there, towards making it become an attractive destination in Hanoi capital.
