Northern Soul

1. The capital of romance

Despite the maddening traffic, Hanoi is full with picturesque settings and backdrops. Scores of couples stroll Hoan Kiem Lake every night of the week, or head down to the flower fields  of West Lake. Many wedding parties and romantic dinners are held in the incredible setting at the Intercontinental Hanoi Westlake, a luxury five-star hotel with a truly sublime location on the northern shore of West Lake. The combination of the tranquil lake, spacious luxurious accommodation, elegant facilities and attentive Vietnamese hospitality blend to make this the perfect place for honeymooners to stay.

A new contender on the block is the charming Hotel de l'Opera, right in the center of Hanoi, a mere stone’s throw from the Opera House and within short walking distance of the Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem lake. The hotel features the best of Hanoi - colonial accents, theatrical interior design and contemporary spaces for entertaining. The 107 rooms and suites are a sanctuary of comfort, with hand picked luxurious amenities and modern technology.

2. Misty peaks

It’s not surprising that the hill town of Sapa in the northwest remains one of the most popular romantic vacation spots. With its cool mountain air and vibrant hill tribe cultures, Sapa is a place to remember. Visitors can relax in an exclusive lodge or trek into the hills to discover more about Vietnam’s ethnic minorities. Conquering the 3,143 meter high peak of Fansipan together is a favourite for couples too. To place a ring on a loved one’s finger on the rooftop of the Indochine amidst an ocean of clouds is a hard act to beat.

3. Moc Chau Plateau

Moc Chau in Son La Province is beautiful all year round, but is at its most amazing in spring when cherry, plum and peach trees are blooming. The stunning natural landscapes of lush greenery, mountains and forests, silver water falls and springs, and white flower valleys blending with heart-shaped green tea hills and terraced fields captivate visitors to these parts, especially the young couples hoping to capture memorable romantic pictures.

4. Cruise around paradise

When it comes to romantic settings, Halong Bay is Vietnam’s coup de grace. The pride of Vietnam’s tourism sector, this stunning destination is now a recognised Natural World Wonder – an accolade which has been added to its UNESCO World Heritage status.

Romance is an integral part of business in Halong Bay. The unique luxury cruises create romance, with  rich, warm wood, luxurious linen and smooth silks plus sunset champagne parties on the boat’s sundecks.

Go coastal

5. The beauty of Hue

For many, Hue’s beauty is unparalleled, with its ancient palaces, temples and mausoleums built by the Nguyen dynasty lining the banks of the Perfume River. This peaceful former imperial city has long been synonymous with royalty, culture, and spiritual reflection and is now regarded as one of the country’s most romantic settings.

Hue is incredibly poetic for couples who can take a boat trip down the Perfume River, set against a backdrop of low, pine-covered hills. Moreover, a visit to Hue can be enriched by joining a royal banquet held within the walls of the former Imperial Capital.

6. Danang beach

Of course, beach getaways still rank first choice for many couples and Vietnam certainly has ample amounts of golden sand to cater to demand. Honoured as one of the world’s six most beautiful beaches by Forbes magazine, Danang is no stranger to weddings and honeymoons held at top class resorts such as Furama Resort, Fusion Maia Resort, The Nam Hai, Vinpearl Luxury Danang, Premier Village and Pullman Danang Resort.

7. Hoi An ancient town

Hoi An’s Old Town is one of Vietnam’s most popular tourist attractions – the town itself is a museum filled with quaint shops, cafés, restaurants, pagodas and temples. There’s nothing more pleasurable than exploring the town by bike or foot, enjoying the sparkling lantern light when  night falls. The nearby Cua Dai beach is a scenic spot to bask in the sunshine. The town boasts a plethora of good restaurants where a romantic dinner for two can be enjoyed.

8. Cruise Nha Trang

Nha Trang offers plenty to keep tourists occupied - from island-hopping boat trips and scuba diving, to mud baths and visits to historic sites. But the main attraction for most visitors is lounging around on deckchairs at a beachfront bar and drinking cocktails in style and comfort.

Couples can now stay in the brand new Emperor Hideaway vessel, exploring Nha Trang Bay named one of the 29 most beautiful bays in the world, before enjoying private luxury at Six Senses Ninh Van Bay. Breathe in the fresh sea air and enjoy the sunrise across the water in the early morning with waves crashing onto the cliffs.

Southern comforts

9. The original City of Love

It’s believed that the highland weather of Dalat makes a lover’s embrace feel all the more sweet. Hence Dalat has always been Vietnam’s city of love and a hugely popular destination for honeymooners. Romance abounds at the city's various flower gardens, including the stunning orchid garden, where visitors can see rare blue orchids. The town's central market overflows with fresh-cut flowers and an incredible array of fruit and vegetables. No matter when you visit Dalat, spring is always in the air.

Picturesque temples and hillsides lined with the crumbling former weekend getaway homes of French colonials make beautiful places to visit and stay. Emperor Bao Dai, the last in Vietnam, had three large homes here, one of which is now the Palace Hotel Dalat. Ana Mandara Villas Dalat, Binh An Village and Edensee Dalat resorts are also recommended for a romantic stay in Dalat.

10. Sleeping beauties in Ke Ga Bay

Ke Ga Bay is something of a secret in Binh Thuan Province, with its secluded and pristine landscapes. Twenty-five kilometers from the city of Phan Thiet, couples can travel by bus or motorbike along the coastline to Ke Ga Island. Here they can wander hand-in-hand along a sleepy pristine beach which is heaven on earth for honeymooners.

11. Pristine Phu Quoc

The heavenly island offers stunning beaches, an untouched natural environment, an easy going and relaxed atmosphere, friendly locals and fantastic scuba driving and snorkeling. The majority of Phu Quoc Island is dedicated to the National Park and protected marine environment, providing a memorable experience, with plenty of exciting activities and places to visit to keep couples entertained during their stay.

In one day, couples can experience the culture of Vietnam at the local market in the morning; relax on a picturesque remote beach in the afternoon, enjoy a delicious dinner and drinks at one of the seafood restaurants in the evening and enjoy luxury accommodation at one of the many hotels and resorts on this superb island.

12. Into the wild on Con Dao

Those willing to fly a little further to visit a more exotic spot should head to Con Dao archipelago, resting in the waters of the East Sea 180km off the southeast coast of Vietnam. The beautiful island remains a little known gem, although less so since Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie sojourned here. A world away from the honks and heat of Vietnam’s largest cities, Con Dao is an untouched and breathtakingly beautiful area, protected for decades as a national and marine park. For the most memorable honeymoon, a stay at Six Senses Con Dao is hard to beat, with the resort remaining true to the Six Senses’ philosophy of selecting remote but accessible destinations in areas of outstanding natural beauty.
