Every September and October, the Northwest is overwhelmed with yellow of the rice fields in harvest season. This is also the time that backpackers excitedly plan for their trip to mountainous areas.

Moc Chau, Son La

Autumn is the best time to travel to Moc Chau. In harvest season, you will be fascinated by yellow terraced fields and scattered stilt houses. You could also visit vast green tea plantations and immerse in wild sunflowers, cauliflower.

Mu Cang Chai

As one of popular tourist destinations for immense terraced fields, terraced fields in Mu Cang Chai are beautiful all the year round. Visitors in March are treated to the sight of glittering ponds. Locals transplant rice seedlings from April to May. After that, all hills are overwhelmed with an everlasting green and until September, the fields start to turn yellow with ripe rice.

The fields are visible from virtually everywhere in the district as they expand over 2,200 ha, including around 500 ha in Che Cu Nha, La Pan Tan and De Xu Phinh communes. In addition to terraced fields, Mu Cang Chai was blessed with beautiful flora and outstanding geographic features including endless mountain ranges and high peaks.

Ha Giang

In September, the terraced rice fields begin to be lissome yellow, overflowing with ripe rice throughout Hoang Su Phi, a national heritage site.

Sapa

In September and October when autumn ends, tourists can feel prosperity all over the area as rice in all terraced fields is ripe, giving the gold color. During the time, the terraced rice fields look like golden silk scarves flying over in the wind above green mountain slopes, making the mountainous landscape astonishingly beautiful.

In shiny yellows, terrace fields in Mu Cang Chai in Yen Bai province, Sa pa in Lao Cai province and Hoang Su Phi in Ha Giang province… are like “as the golden ladder”.
