If you are planning for an ideal Christmas and New Year 2017 vacation and would like to have romantic, gentle and novel experiences, why don't you select Vietnam -one of destinations for ideal holiday.
The Christmas festival is getting more and more popular in Vietnam - a communist state where no one has ever expected to see such encouragement to a Christan festival. Nowadays, Vietnamese people start to encourage the Christmas festival because they can see the irreligious attraction and also commercial opportunities.

Thought Christmas festival in Vietnam is affected alot by Western culture, however, it's still somehow different. One of the differences between the Christmas atmosphere in Vietnam with some other countries is that there are lots of Christmas Carols sung in shopping malls in country. There are Christmas sales everywhere. Churches, shopping centers, and even houses all have Christmas decorations.

Christmas festival is time for friends. Yes! Vietnamese people find no difficulties in excepting the influence of the companies because to most people, Christmas doesn't base on personal value. It is not an occasion to stay at home, have dinner with family and say thank you to each others. Instead, people prefer to go out with their friends, go shopping, taking pictures of the sparkling Christmas decorations at the malls, stores or companies.... especially on Christmas's Eve.

In Ho Chi Minh city (which is the largest city in Vietnam and used to be called Saigon) people (especially young people) like to go into the city center, where there is a Catholic Cathedral. The streets are crowded with people on Christmas Eve and in the city center cars are not allowed for the night.

Not many people in Vietnam are Christians, but some people like to go to Midnight Mass services to watch the Nativity plays and here Christmas music. Vietnam used to be part of the French Empire and there are still French influences in the Christmas traditions.

All churches, and some Christian home, will have a nativity crib scene or 'creche'. Many Catholic churches have a big scene with nearly life size statues of Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the shepherds and animals.

In some areas of Ho Chi Minh city, usually in Catholic parishes, people have big crib scenes in front of their houses and decorate the whole street, turning it into a Christmas area! These are popular for people to visit and look at the scenes. Happy Christmas in Vietnamese is Chuć Mưǹg Giańg Sinh. Happy/Merry Christmas in lots more languages

Also like in France, the special Christmas Eve meal is called 'reveillon' and has a 'bûche de Noël' (a chocolate cake in the shape of a log) for desert. Vietnamese people like to give presents of food and at Christmas a bûche de Noël is a popular gift. Other Christmas presents aren't very common, although some young people like to exchange Christmas cards.

It's very hot for Santa in Vietnam and it can't be very comfortable wearing all that velvet in a hot country! Santa is called 'Ông già Noel' (it means Christmas old man). Come to Vietnam this Christmas season to experience the wonderful things.
