Top 9 Valentine's Day Destinations In Vietnam

Nga Do
Until a few years ago, Valentine’s Day was just another day in Vietnam. But the Vietnamese love nothing so much as a good holiday, especially when that holiday affords an opportunity for a bit of romance. Indeed, the country’s enchanting waterfalls, pristine coastal waters and sublime sunsets are picture perfect backdrops for a little amour.

For the romantically inclined, here are the top 9 Valentine’s Day destinations to check out from north to south:

Dalat

Dalat is at the top of the list. It's the country’s honeymoon capital, and its natural assets are inspiring, from the picturesque mountaintop of Liang Bian down to the Pongour waterfall. The country’s oldest golf course, built for King Bao Dai, the last ruler of Vietnam, cultivates a hill near Xuan Huong Lake in the heart of the city. Not that there’s all that much romantic about golf. Just saying...

Hue

As the last imperial capital of Vietnam, the city is an East Asian wonderland of palaces, pavilions and pagodas, all of it spliced by the alluring Perfume River. The city’s rivers, canals, lagoons, parks, and gardens channel tranquility and all kinds of chi.

Sapa

Every Saturday, local singles meet at the iconic stone church in the center of Sapa’s township in search of a date at the “Love Market.” If sparks don’t fly there, they very well may among the stunning terraced rice fields or in the shadow of Vietnam’s tallest mountain, Fansipan.

Halong

A sunset cruise among the thousands of limestone karsts of Halong Bay is nothing short of a fairytale. A dragon formed the bay thousands of years ago, gouging up islands out of raw earth with swipes of his tale. Some of the dragon’s rock formations are so risque, it’s a wonder that Dalat inspires more honeymooners.

Hanoi

Charlie Chaplin and his wife, Paulette Goddard checked into the Metropole on their honeymoon in 1936 and romantics have been checking in ever since. Indeed, the hotel’s colonial era charm is part of its award-winning appeal.

Hoi An

Well known for its heritage as Southeast Asia’s best preserved trading port, Hoi An glows with the light of lanterns at a full moon festival every month in the Old Town. Beyond those storied streets, a river runs through it, beaches beckon, and Sirens sing on the Cham Islands.

Phan Thiet

It’s no wonder why most travelers adore Phan Thiet with its year round sunshine and sandy white beaches. With its unusually high winds, water sports such as windsurfing, kite surfing or sand boarding are at the plenty for outdoor lovers.

Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City, aka Saigon, used to be known as the Pearl of the Orient, and there is still plenty of luster on that old saw. The city now boasts a world-class spa at the new Reverie Saigon — a hotel that also features a Romance Suite with a porter chair set just so by a deep-soaking bathtub so that your partner always has the best seat in the house.

Con Dao Islands

Located offshore of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, Con Dao Islands are a quick 1-hour flight from Ho Chi Minh City. Although this pristine archipelago is only 75 km2, its beaches and clear waters have made a name for itself. Which is why Hollywood power couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, sojourned here in 2011.

Enjoy your Valentine's Day in Vietnam and record memorable moments!
