The Proliferation of Luxury Hotel in Khanh Hoa

Unknown

A high-class hotel room boom is looming large in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa, which is known for its beautiful beach city of Nha Trang, according to the province’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The province has seven new four- and five-star hotels with some 2,600 rooms, which will be put into service some time this year. Meanwhile, international tourist arrivals are forecast to fall this year due to the dismal global economic outlook.Official figures put tourist arrivals in Khanh Hoa at 4.1 million last year, up 14% against the same period of 2014.

Nguyen Van Thanh, vice chairman of the Khanh Hoa Tourism Association, told the Daily that the new four- and five-star hotel rooms added last year were 25-30% higher than in 2014.

Thanh said the province would face an oversupply of hotel rooms as many hotel and resort projects will be completed in the coming time.

Thanh said Khanh Hoa Province has many stunning landscapes but they have yet to be fully tapped to lure tourists, so they could help bring more visitors to the province if they are promoted.

The provincial tourism agencies should work with hotel and resort investors to prevent a hotel room glut.

Thanh said the parties concerned should join hands to promote Khanh Hoa as a major destination for foreign tourists. Tourism planning should be done in harmony with development of other infrastructure facilities such as airport, seaport and hotel.

The province last year saw strong growth in Chinese tourist arrivals. Thanh said most Chinese tourists to Nha Trang City choose to stay at four- and five-star hotels. China, together with Europe and North Asia, is an important source market for the province’s luxury hotel segment.
