Originally, Tan Son Nhat international airport was formed in the early 1930s when the French colonial government constructed a small airport near Tan Son Nhat village. Nowadays, Tay Son Nhat is the largest airport in Vietnam. It is 6 kilometers from the north of Ho Chi Minh Center.

The airport consists of two terminals, terminal 1 for domestic flights and terminal 2 for international flights. There are over 40 airlines providing services to the airport with flights throughout Asia and Europe, for example, Vietnam airlines, VietJet Air, Jetstar Parcific Airlines, Vasco, and so on. In addition, if tourists want to travel around the city, taxis, buses, cars, and motorcycles are always available.

For foreign tourists, if you have forgotten to exchange money into VND when traveling to Vietnam. Don’t worry. Convenient currency exchanging services and ATMs in Tan Son Nhat will deal with that problem. Furthermore, telephones, a post office, and free wireless Internet access are available for travelers to use.

Tan Son Nhat international airport is located in the crowded Ho Chi Minh City. Therefore, it’s difficult to expand. Following a recent decision by the Vietnamese Prime Minister, a new airport – Long Thanh International Airport will replace Tan Son Nhat airport for international departure. The new airport will be built in Long Thanh district, Dong Nai province, about 50 km (31 miles) from the northeast of Ho Chi Minh City, near Highway 51A.

When Long Thanh International Airport is opened, Tan Son Nhat Airport will serve domestic passengers only. Long Thanh International Airport is expected to be the top airport on the Indochinese peninsula, and one of the busiest airports in the southeast of Asia.
